ABOUT

Hello and welcome! I'm writer Lori Schafer, and I'd like to thank you for visiting my author website. Here you will find my blog, links to my published work, information about my forthcoming projects, and, if I'm feeling very inspired, the occasional photo of me.

Headshot Arches
Is it just me, or do I have kind of a Mona Lisa thing going on here?

I'm a very eclectic writer, by which I mean I'm all over the place. My first two novels, My Life with Michael: A Story of Sex and Beer for the Middle-Aged and Just the Three of Us: An Erotic Romantic Comedy for the Commitment-Challenged are humorous and genre-bending amalgamations of women's fiction, romance, and erotica. But I also write memoir when the mood strikes; this is how On Hearing of My Mother's Death Six Years After It Happened, a book commemorating my adolescent experience of my mother's mental illness, was born.

In addition, I've had a ton of short work published in a wide variety of print and online venues - more than thirty pieces in the last year and a half - so if you enjoy flash fiction, short stories, and essays, please check out my publications page, where you'll find links and a complete list of my credits. I have also published selected works as free ebooks on Amazon, ITunes, Barnes and Noble, and Kobo, so feel free to download whatever strikes your fancy.

I call my blog "Short Subjects I Feel Like Writing About" for good reason, because this is my place where anything goes. I generally post links when I have a story published, along with commentary on the piece, and lately I've been doing a lot of travel posts because I'm in the midst of drafting my second memoir The Long Road Home. But I also post essays on a host of other subjects, everything from ruminations on popular culture to interpretive book reviews to articles on writing and publishing. In addition to my blog, I also publish a newsletter - not on a specific schedule, only when I have news - to which you may subscribe if you'd like to receive my updates.

I'm very active on social media, and I'd love it if you'd connect with me in the venue of your choice:

This is a very exciting time for me because (drumroll, please!)... my first two books are coming out late this fall! That's right, on November 7th, I will be releasing both my memoir On Hearing of My Mother's Death Six Years After It Happened ($7.99 paperback, $2.99 Kindle) and an autobiographical short story and essay collection entitled Stories from My Memory-Shelf: Fiction and Essays from My Past (only $5.99 paperback, $0.99 Kindle). Both books will be available at online retailers in both paperback and audiobook, and the eBook versions are available now for Kindle pre-order on Amazon.com.

Or download the following FREE self-contained excerpts from each book if you'd like to take an advance peek:

My Life with Michael and Just the Three of Us are scheduled to be released in February of 2015, by which time I hope to have also completed the sequel to Just the Three of Us, untitled as yet.

I have an abundance of other projects in the hopper, including this one, from which I've derived my slogan:

“We Are All Miss America”

I'm not ready to share yet exactly what it means, but it's part of a super-secret project that I plan to launch in 2015.

In the meantime, drop me a line at lorilschafer(at)outlook(dot)com and tell me something about you. I look forward to hearing from you!
